Ruth Aragón (Mexico, 1993)
Her interest in working with different materials and processes led her to pursue a degree in Industrial Design (2015) and a second degree in Arts (2018) from the University of Monterrey. She is currently in the MFA program (2024-2027) at Arizona State University.
Aragón grew up in Monterrey. A city that has valued industry over its mountains, economic growth over art and culture, industrial-made over handmade, shiny, metallic, and cold materials over organic and femininity. Her production, mostly made with soft materials like textiles and long processes like when building ceramic pieces, directly responds to this context.
Her work comes from her identity as a woman and a reimagination of nature as a pause to the high-speed life where individuals often perceive external nature only through windows and screens: A soft and stubborn response to a harsh and dense environment.
She has participated in solo exhibitions such as Con agua y sol me he criado at Galería Heart Ego (Monterrey, 2024) and Bajo el cielo despejado después de la lluvia at Castilla Klyuyeva (Monterrey 2022) and group exhibitions like Fibras: tierra, agua y sol at Arde Arte (Monterrey, 2024); Cuarteo, Contemporary Mexican Ceramics at Ballista Space, San Miguel de Allende (2023); A Full Color at Comercio Popular, Chicago (2023); Suspensiones Aleatorias, at Guadalajara 90210 & Espacio FAMA, Monterrey (2022); Salón Cosa (Monterrey, 2022 & CDMX, 2021) among others.
She has been awarded both the CONAHCYT (2024-2026) and CONARTE (2024) Scholarship to study abroad and with a production grant from Sistema de Creadores, in the Applied Arts and Textiles category (2022-2023).
